Knowing when to speak is wisdom;
Knowing when to be still is wise.
Mastering both is golden,
The very precious crown of maturity.
Silence is indeed golden,
Often the strongest answer to a fool,
Though among life's hardest disciplines.
Not every battle needs a voice;
Not every insult deserves a reply.
The wise weigh their words,
And let peace speak where pride would shout.
For there is a time to speak,
And a time to remain silent.
The tongue guided by God
Is as powerful in restraint as in speech.
Since even fools are thought wise if they're silent,
And the art of speaking is poetry,
Then let wisdom teach you the difference,
To speak, or to mute;
That your words may bring life,
And your silence may bring glory.
