Topic: The Cost of Reaching Heaven
In today’s message, I remind us all that heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people. Jesus tells us in John 14:1–3 that He has gone ahead to prepare a place for us, but that place is not for the lazy or the careless. If God is preparing a place for us, then we must also prepare ourselves for that place.
Heaven is not for those who refuse to engage their God-given gifts. Just like the servant who hid his talent instead of using it for his master, anyone who neglects their spiritual responsibilities risks losing the reward meant for them. And heaven is not for the careless. Esau lost his birthright because he treated it lightly, and the five foolish virgins missed the bridegroom because they failed to carry extra oil. If we treat our salvation carelessly, we may find ourselves at the verge of losing it.
There are costs we must be willing to pay if we truly desire to reach heaven:
1. The Cost of Self-Denial
I must deny myself daily, take up my cross, and follow Christ. There is no discipleship without sacrifice.
2. The Cost of Separation from the World
I cannot live like the world and expect to reign with Christ. I must separate myself from anything that draws me away from God.
3. The Cost of Faithfulness
I must be faithful—faithful in prayer, service, holiness, and devotion. God rewards those who remain consistent.
4. The Cost of Obedience
I must obey God’s Word fully. My obedience is the proof of my love and commitment to Him.
Inconclusion, beloved, heaven is worth every effort. I urge each of us to make every deliberate, fervent, and unwavering effort to be there. The journey may be demanding, but the reward is eternal.
